Chris Billam-Smith promises to 'do a number' on Tommy McCarthy as Matchroom Fight Camp returns

Chris Billiam-Smith has promised to 'do a number' on European and British champion Tommy McCarthy when they meet at the return of Matchroom Fight Camp this summer.

The cruiserweight pair will meet to unify the Commonwealth, European and British titles on a date that is to be confirmed in the promotions' back yard - with fans in attendance providing an exciting new element to the idea which was debuted last year.

Commonwealth champ Billam-Smith isn't much of a loudmouth, but he has been engaged in something of a back-and-forth with McCarthy of late, telling the Irishman he would 'punch holes' in him on social media.

Speaking with Mirror Fighting after the fight was announced, he said: "I saw an interview with him saying he doesn't want the fight, so I wanted to rile him up and get the fight, which is why I tweeted at him.

"I'm not really a trash talker but that day I was feeling it and I got what I wanted out of it so that was that, but I really have got no like or dislike for Tommy.

"He's just an opponent, for me he's just another step on the ladder for my career so I'm sure after the fight we'll shake hands but when it comes to the ring a switch gets flipped.

"Its going to be all guns blazing when I'm in the ring, but I want to be kind before I get into the ring and afterwards."

McCarthy announced his signing with Matchroom Boxing this week, as well as confirming that this summer he would meet Billam-Smith in the highly anticipated domestic clash.

"I believe that I am going to do a number on him," Billam-Smith continued. "But I'm sure he'd say the same about me so I have to box to the best of my ability.

"This fight has a lot of hype around it because you have all the belts on the line and the way he's talking is going to build it even more which will build the profile which the fans love.

"I'm really looking forward to getting into camp, the build-up and then of course the fight itself which is something I really relish.

"On paper this will be the biggest win of my career and I think a lot of people would see this as the biggest fight I've had so far."

No date has been confirmed as yet for the card, but it is expected to take place around the end of July with a few hundred fans at the bizarre Brentwood venue.
