Princess Margaret's art deco pearl and diamond bracelet for sale

Princess Margret was known for her dazzling displays of jewellery - and now one buyer could own a piece from her personal collection.

The art deco cultured pearl and diamond bracelet worn by the Queen’s glamorous younger sister for her official 19th birthday portrait taken by renowned British photographer Cecil Beaton is up for sale.

It will feature in Dix Noonan Webb’s Jewellery, Watches and Objects of Vertu auction on 14 September in London’s Mayfair, reported Tatler, and is estimated to sell for between £30,000 and £40,000.

The sentimental piece features a double row of cultured pearls bordering a line of circular-cut diamonds.

A diamond and pearl openwork geometric clasp completes the dainty bracelet, which sits in a stunning red leather Cartier case.

The piece dates from circa 1925, and was pictured on Princess Margaret, who died in 2002 aged 71, for her 19th birthday portrait.

Taken on July 8 1949 before being published on August 21, it features a fairytale-like painted backdrop, while the royal sports a glamorous white ensemble with colourful stripes.

It was captured by photographer Cecil Beaton at Buckingham Palace.

Princess Margaret amassed an astonishing array of accessories in her lifetime, and unlike other senior royals she owned an impressive personal stock, rather than relying only on the royal jewellery vaults.

For instance, she bought the Poltimore Tiara in 1959 for £5,500 before wearing it on her wedding day.

The royal also owned the Lady Mount Stephen necklace, a piece given to her by her grandmother, Queen Mary.

She wore the collet-set diamond necklace at many major state occasions, and in 2006, it was sold at Christie’s, fetching an astonishing $1.8million.

Frances Noble, head of jewellery and associate director at Dix Noonan Webb, said: 'We are delighted to be selling this exquisite art deco diamond and cultured pearl bracelet which was formerly the property of HRH Princess Margaret.

'This is a rare opportunity to purchase a very personal piece of Royal history with an impeccable provenance.'
