Wimbledon champion Simona Halep divorces billionaire husband days before first anniversary

mona Halep and her husband Toni Iuruc are reportedly getting a divorce just days before their first wedding anniversary. The couple got married on September 15 last year in their home of Romania but it appears that the marriage has latest less than a year, as the billionaire businessman confirmed the news to Romanian reporters.

Halep and Iuruc have split after three years together, with their one-year wedding anniversary just days away. The 2019 Wimbledon champion and the 42-year-old were also set to have their religious wedding party later this year on November 13, with Fanatik reporting that around 300 people were invited to the celebration at Romania's Sinaia Casino.

But the investor and entrepreneur has now told the outlet that he and the former world No 1 have separated and will be getting a divorce, after initially denying the rumours to reporters. Earlier on Wednesday, Iuruc gave a short statement to Fanatik, saying: "We decided together with Simona to break up.

"Stop insisting, it's my last public appearance... The rest will be handled by the lawyers in the most civilised way possible. Thank you for understanding."

It comes after the 30-year-old posted a selfie of herself and her husband together in New York on her Instagram story, days before the US Open. The seventh seed in Flushing Meadows then suffered a shock first-round exit at the hands of world No 124 Daria Snigur in the Ukrainian's Grand Slam debut.

Halep has since returned home to Romania, where she and Iuruc are now getting a divorce. And the 24-time title winner has already sorted a lawyer for the divorce proceedings, hiring the same team who negotiated her sponsorship deal with Nike in 2018.
