Diddy's defence say judge acted as '13th juror' - and announce plans to appeal

Diddy's defence lawyers have now reacted outside court, describing today as "a very bad day" and saying they intend to appeal.

"There is a human being now in custody for 50 months, based upon conduct that a jury heard... and the jury rejected," says attorney Brian Steel.

He is referring to the fact Combs was convicted of prostitution-related charges but cleared of more serious charges of sex-trafficking and racketeering conspiracy.

However, the judge said in court today that allegations made in court would be considered as the strength of testimony could not be ignored.

Marc Agnifilo, another of Combs's lawyers, says they plan to appeal and that he thinks they have a "strong basis" to appeal - the strongest being that the jury found there was "not coercion" involved in the rapper's relationships.

"I think the judge [took] coercion today as a basis for a sentence," he says. "We think that that is unconstitutional. We think a jury verdict should mean more than our jury's verdict seems to mean...

"There was no sex-trafficking, there was no racketeering, everything was adult," he says.

The judge has acted as a "13th juror", Agnifilo adds.

What happened in court today?

After a sentencing hearing lasting seven hours, Sean "Diddy" Combs was handed a jail term of 50 months, so just over four years.

It was more than his defence had hoped for, but less than the prosecution's call for more than 11 years.

In court, Combs, 55, spoke out for the first time - admitting his past behaviour was "disgusting, shameful and sick", and apologising personally to Cassie Ventura and "Jane", another former girlfriend who testified anonymously during the trial.

But despite his plea for "mercy" and expressions of remorse, the judge told him he had abused his "power and control" with women he professed to love - and rejected the defence's characterisation that "freak off" sexual encounters were consensual experiences, that his was just a "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll story".

Afterwards, Combs turned towards his family and tapped his heart. He said to his children and his mother: "I love you, I'm sorry." Then he told them he will be okay as he gathered his papers and left the courtroom.

YOUNG AGAIN

‘Starting a new chapter’ – Inside ‘in love’ Tiger Woods’ romance with Vanessa Trump who is helping him on and off course

Woods and Trump have been dating since Thanksgiving

TIGER Woods feels "like he's 20 again" after publicly confirming his relationship with Vanessa Trump, two close friends told The U.S. Sun.

The golf legend initially wanted to keep his romance with Donald Trump Jr.'s ex-wife under wraps.

However, with their children attending the same Florida school and rumors beginning to circulate, Woods decided to make an announcement last week.

The 15-time Major winner declared "love is in the air" in an emotional social media post.

Now, two friends have revealed that Woods has fallen head over heels for the 47-year-old, describing him as feeling like a lovesick teenager once again.

Woods, who was previously married to Elin Nordegren before their 2010 divorce following revelations of his infidelity, is currently recovering from an Achilles injury — the latest in a series of setbacks that have hindered his pursuit of further glory.

According to sources, spending extended time away from the golf course in recent years has taken a toll on Woods.

A near-fatal car crash in February 2021 left him with significant physical challenges and darkened his mood.

While Woods will miss next week’s Masters at Augusta, insiders claim Vanessa has brought newfound joy and positivity into his life.

"Tiger is so happy," said one friend. "He's reborn and full of positive energy."

Both Woods and Trump live in Palm Beach, Florida, just 20 minutes apart, with their children attending the prestigious Benjamin School, which costs $38,595 annually.

Sources say the couple began dating before Thanksgiving but kept their relationship low-profile. They were spotted together at a golf tournament last month, fueling speculation about their romance.

Now that the relationship is public, Tiger reportedly couldn’t be happier.

Friends say Vanessa has helped the golf icon regain his confidence in both his personal and professional life.

"He’s been lacking confidence," one friend revealed, "but Vanessa is always there, supporting him and offering kind words during tough moments. She’s helping him feel like the champion we all know he is."

"They’re completely in sync," the friend added. "Their connection is solid and genuine."

Former President Donald Trump has expressed his approval of the relationship, reportedly telling Woods he was "very happy" for him during a recent golf outing.

Vanessa’s marriage to Donald Trump Jr., with whom she shares five children, ended in 2018.

Woods, meanwhile, was in a seven-year relationship with nightclub manager Erica Herman, which ended three years ago.

Another close friend revealed that Woods, 49, has confided in those close to him that he sees a future with Vanessa.

"He told her he loved her very quickly," the friend said, "and he hasn’t stopped talking about her since. I haven’t seen him like this in years. He feels like he’s 20 again. It’s beautiful to see."

The friend continued, "I met her not long after they started dating, and I could feel the spark between them—their connection is intense. When they’re apart, he’s constantly on the phone with her."

"They’re building something truly special," the insider added.

The couple is reportedly already planning vacations together and envisioning a future as a team.

"Tiger is madly in love," said the second friend. "He’s back to enjoying life."

Lewis Hamilton 'returns to Mercedes HQ today' to put retirement speculation to an end

Lewis Hamilton 'returns to Mercedes HQ today' to put retirement speculation to an end

Lewis Hamilton is gearing up to return to Mercedes' headquarters today for the first time ahead of the 2022 season, bringing an end to any speculation that he may quit F1.

Hamilton fuelled talk that he could sensationally retire after falling silent on social media following his season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title heartbreak, where Max Verstappen pipped him to the title following a dramatic safety car ruling which led to a final lap shootout.

But he recently returned to social media to let his fans know that he is 'back' and now, according to The Sun, Hamilton is expected to return to Mercedes' Brackley HQ to grab a first look at the new car ahead of the 2022 campaign.

Hamilton will run through the finer details of Mercedes' 2022 car - which will be a whole lot different with the new regulations brought in ahead of the upcoming campaign.

After breaking his silence on the weekend, Hamilton then dropped a further hint about his future within the sport as he took to the streets of London for an early-morning run to build up his fitness again.

The seven-time world champion was up at the crack of dawn on Monday to head out for the run - joined by his long-time Mercedes trainer Angela Cullen.

But returning to Mercedes' HQ is the clearest indication yet that he will remain in the sport, despite it being reported that he was going to wait until the FIA publish their findings into a review of the season-ending race in Abu Dhabi.

Hamilton will be desperate to gain revenge over bitter rival Verstappen after the chaos that engulfed the Abu Dhabi finale in December.

Hamilton was in cruise control and on course to win an unprecedented eighth world title, winning by 11 seconds, before a late Nicholas Latifi crash with laps remaining began a series of chaotic events.

Hamilton should have won under the safety car, but Michael Masi - who has come under immense criticism - controversially changed his mind to allow the cars between the Brit and Verstappen to unlap themselves.

The FIA race director then ordered the safety car off track, meaning the Dutchman was right on the tail of Hamilton before overtaking him on a single lap shootout.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who was utterly furious with the F1 finale, admitted his star driver was left 'disillusioned' with how events unfolded - swelling retirement talk even further.

However, it now appears Hamilton is back in the game before the new season gets underway in March at the Bahrain Grand Prix.

Sam Bankman-Fried’s $16 Billion Fortune Is Eviscerated in Days

Sam Bankman-Fried’s $16 Billion Fortune Is Eviscerated in Days

(Bloomberg) -- Just weeks ago, Sam Bankman-Fried was considered crypto’s version of John Pierpont Morgan, willing to throw around his massive fortune to save the industry.

The curly-haired 30-year-old known as SBF was everywhere, backing flailing projects including BlockFi, Voyager Digital and Celsius. From the Bahamas, he invested in Robinhood Markets Inc., raising speculation that he’d take over the trading app. And why not? Just last year he said that once his FTX was big enough, it could swallow CME Group Inc. or Goldman Sachs Group Inc.

And he looked poised to leverage his fortune — $26 billion at its peak — to shape the world, donating millions to Democrats and promising that one day he’d give it all away to political causes and charity.

In the span of days, it became clear that Bankman-Fried and FTX were in the midst of a liquidity crunch and needed a bailout of their own. Changpeng Zhao’s Binance swept in to take over, and, while exact terms weren’t disclosed, it’s likely that SBF’s $15.6 billion fortune will be annihilated at the hands of his billionaire rival.

That might come as a shock to investors including Softbank Vision Fund, Singapore wealth fund Temasek and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, who sunk $400 million into the exchange at a $32 billion valuation in January. But it also put the broader crypto industry on notice: If SBF isn’t safe, who is?

Record Wipeout

Bankman-Fried’s 53% stake in FTX was worth about $6.2 billion before Tuesday’s takeover, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, based on that fundraising round and the subsequent performance of publicly traded crypto companies.  He revealed in May that he had acquired a 7.6% stake in Robinhood. Shares of the online brokerage fell 19% on Tuesday after Binance agreed to acquire FTX, and were down an additional 5% at 9:39 a.m. in New York.

FTX wasn’t Bankman-Fried’s most valuable asset, though. That was his crypto trading house, Alameda Research, which contributed $7.4 billion to his personal fortune.

The Bloomberg wealth index assumes existing FTX investors, including Bankman-Fried, will be completely wiped out by Binance’s bailout, and that the root of the exchange’s problems stemmed from Alameda. As a result, both FTX and Alameda are given a $1 value.

That leaves SBF’s net worth at about $1 billion, down from $15.6 billion heading into Tuesday. The 94% loss is the biggest one-day collapse ever among billionaires tracked by Bloomberg.

Alameda was founded by Bankman-Fried, formerly a trader at Jane Street, and Gary Wang, an engineer who’d previously worked at Google. They found a niche: arbitraging pricing differences in cryptocurrencies in different countries, and soon expanded into a range of quantitative crypto trading strategies.

It seemed highly profitable. Bloomberg in September reported the firm made about $1 billion in 2021. But questions remained about how FTX and Alameda interacted with each other.

FTT Fear

Then Zhao, known as CZ, helped bring about the demise of his chief rival and onetime disciple.

Crypto news site CoinDesk reported on Friday that a token issued by FTX, FTT, made up about a quarter of Alameda’s $14.6 billion in assets. Another item, labeled “FTT collateral,” accounted for $2.16 billion.

Apparently in response to the revelations, Zhao tweeted that his exchange would be liquidating its holdings of FTT. The token’s value has since sunk by about 80%.

CZ now looks poised to add FTX to his own empire. He is already the richest person in crypto, with a fortune estimated at $16.4 billion. His net worth peaked at $97 billion in January, according to the Bloomberg wealth index.

Binance’s acquisition doesn’t involve FTX.US, a separate exchange also majority-owned by Bankman-Fried. FTX.US was valued at $8 billion in a January fundraising round.

It’s unclear exactly what the implosion of its international affiliate will have on the US-based exchange, but it shows “how fragile this world is,” said Paul Gulberg, a Bloomberg Intelligence analyst. It’s “very surprising, scary to some extent.”

Anthony Joshua to defend his world titles against Kubrat Pulev in December

Anthony Joshua to defend his world titles against Kubrat Pulev in December

Anthony Joshua will defend his IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO world titles against mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev at The O2 in London on Saturday December 12. The event will be live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on DAZN, promoted by Matchroom Boxing in association with Top Rank and Epic Sports and Entertainment.

Victory for Joshua will set up a blockbuster contest in 2021 with WBC Champion and fellow Briton Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight crown, arguably the richest fight in British boxing history.

The Pulev fight will mark Joshua's first fight on UK soil in over two years, since he defended his crowns with a devastating seventh round knockout of Russia’s Alexander Povetkin at Wembley Stadium. Since then, the Watford heavyweight has lost and regained all the belts to Mexican-American Andy Ruiz.

Pulev, the IBF’s No.1-ranked heavyweight mandatory challenger, gets his second shot at world honours after his defeat to modern legend Wladimir Klitschko in 2014 – the only loss of his 29-fight professional career. He has won six fights in a row since then, including victories over Derek Chisora and an IBF eilminator win over Hughie Fury in 2018.

The Bulgarian boxer had been set to challenge Joshua at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in October 2017 but was forced to withdraw through an injury. He will now get his opportunity to ruin the champion’s plans to face Fury in an all-British blockbuster showdown in the future.

Joshua remarked on Friday: “December 12 is the date and once again the Heavyweight belts go up in the air and it is my sole focus to make sure that come December 13 they are in their rightful place in the UK.

“The O2 is the original lion’s den, I have a lot of history with the arena, but without the fans something huge is missing. I am really hoping that, safety permitting, we might be able to bring some boxing fans in, but we will have to see. I respect every opponent and I respect Pulev. I wish him well during his preparation.”

Pulev added: "For a small country of Bulgaria to stand up for the heavyweight titles is a great accomplishment. This fight is for my late father and all Bulgarians around the world. I’m coming to London to seize the Heavyweight Championship of the World.”

Eddie Hearn, Joshua's promoter, further added: “After a challenging year for everyone, to end with the unified World Heavyweight Championship is very special,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “Over a year after regaining his crown, Anthony Joshua takes on yet another dangerous challenger in mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev. AJ’s resume is unrivalled, and this is the final hurdle until we challenge for the undisputed crown next year.

“Whilst it’s unusual to think of an AJ fight without tens of thousands of fans in attendance, we will be doing everything we can to lobby for the safe return of fans to this event, we have to move forward together. I know Team Pulev and Bob Arum will be doing all they can to become World Champion on Dec 12 but AJ constantly evolves and improves and I expect a dominant performance and a spectacular KO to close out 2020.”Bob Arum, Top Rank Chairman, said: “Eddie Hearn better watch out. Kubrat Pulev is going to destroy his plan for a Joshua-Tyson Fury unification fight.”
