Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie gets emotional while drafting son of franchise legend Jeremiah Trotter

The Philadelphia Eagles brought in quite a haul over the weekend at the NFL Draft.

After grabbing two cornerbacks early in the weekend, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman spent his days wheeling and dealing, flipping picks up and down the draft board to get his team where he wanted it.

One of the most heartwarming picks of the entire weekend came in round five, when the Eagles traded up to draft Clemson linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Trotter’s father, Jeremiah Trotter Sr., was drafted by the Eagles in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft, and spent the vast majority of his career in Philadelphia, becoming one of the franchise’s most beloved players.

Now nearly three decades later, his son is set to join the organization.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie was emotional while speaking on the phone with the second generation of Trotter to suit up for the Birds.

“How old were you when I first met you?” Lurie asked Trotter over the phone. “Two? Three? Congrats man. Just really huge congrats. Congrats to your dad, and I loved your mother. Congrats, can’t wait to see you.”

Lurie referenced Trotter’s mother Tammi, who died of cancer in February 2023.

At the draft, every team is looking to make the picks that will best set their team up for success in the years to come. While Trotter Jr. will have some big shoes to fill that were left by his father, it’s clear he’ll have a ton of support from the organization on his journey to fill them.
