Pickford wasn't having any of it when camera focused on an upset Harry Kane after France loss

Jordan Pickford shielded a distraught Harry Kane from the cameras after England crashed out of the 2022 World Cup on Saturday evening.

England went into their quarter-final clash with France high on confidence.

But, despite a promising start, it was France who took the lead in the 17th minute.

Aurélien Tchouaméni took aim from 25 yards out and his effort rifled into the bottom corner.

The Three Lions were left reeling that a foul was not given to Bukayo Saka in the build-up but their protests fell on deaf ears.

England battled back and drew level in the 54th minute when Kane converted from the penalty spot.

France re-established their lead with 13 minute remaining when Olivier Giroud got in front of Harry Maguire and nodded Antoine Griezmann’s cross into the net.

Gareth Southgate’s side were given a lifeline five minutes later when they were awarded another penalty.

Theo Hernandez bundled Mason Mount over inside the box and, after consultation with the pitchside monitor, the referee pointed to the spot.

Kane stepped up but blazed his effort well over the bar.

England kept pushing for an equaliser but, despite eight minutes being added on, they could not find the goal they needed to send the game to extra-time.

Jordan Pickford shields Harry Kane from the cameras

Kane was distraught after his missed penalty and he was still bitterly disappointed at the final whistle.

Kane was being consoled by Pickford and Kieran Trippier when the cameras focused on the Tottenham star.

Pickford was not having any of it, though, and felt the need to act.

The Everton man shielded his teammate from the camera and said: ‘A bit of respect, please?’ Watch the moment below…

As Match of the Day write: ‘We all need a teammate like Jordan Pickford’.

Who do France play in the semi-finals?

France are now just two wins away from defending their title.

They play Morocco on Wednesday December 14 for a place in the final, where they will face either Argentina or Croatia.
