Tottenham fans send brutal message to Harry Kane as they beat Man City without star striker

Tottenham Hotspur secured a memorable victory over the reigning Premier League champions in their opening day of the 2021/22 campaign courtesy of a Son Heung-Min goal, his seventh against Manchester City.

The pre-match discourse was inevitably centred around Tottenham talisman Harry Kane, who has expressed his desire to leave the club in favour of a move to Man City.

Kane, who was not part of the match-day squad as they welcomed Pep Guardiola's side to North London, was watching on from the stands.

The stadium has proved to be an unhappy stomping ground for the visitors, who have failed to win in four attempts at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

While Son was the star of the show, though young defender Japhet Tanganga deserves an honourable mention for his stellar display up against both Raheem Sterling and £100m man Jack Grealish, attention from the terraces eventually turned to their missing striker.

The Spurs faithful first belted out a chorus of "Japhet Tanganga he's one of our own", a chant usually reserved for Kane himself, before addressing the striker directly with the less subtle "Are you watching Harry Kane?".

Kane was the subject of a £100m bid from City earlier this summer, but that was quickly rejected by Tottenham chief Daniel Levy, who is thought to be holding out for a figure closer to the £150m mark - though recent reports have claimed he could be tempted by a £127m proposal from City.

The morale was high among Spurs fans during what was Nuno Espirito Santo's first Premier League game in charge, the Portuguese coach getting off to a dream start with a victory in a contest where many had written his side off before a ball had been kicked.

City started the better of the two sides, before the hosts eventually grew into the game and played without fear, taking the contest to the champions who struggled to deal with Tottenham's pace, particularly down the left flank.

With just two weeks of the window left, it remains anyone's guess where Kane will play his football this season.
