Erling Haaland receives 'double your money' contract offer amid transfer interest

Borussia Dortmund have made an attempt to try and convince star striker Erling Haaland to pledge his short-term future to the club by offering him a 'double your money' contract extension, according to Sport Bild.

Haaland has attracted the attention of just about every super club on the continent given the 21-year-old's stunning record in front of goal.

Affectionately dubbed 'the Terminator' for his ruthless streak, Haaland has notched 47 goals in 48 Bundesliga appearances since he arrived at the Signal Iduna Park in December of 2019.

As a result, Haaland's list of potential suitors is lengthy - with everyone from Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus reportedly interested in his services, while Dortmund are also expected to have to fend off interest from title rivals Bayern Munich.

Haaland's current contract actually does not expire until the summer of 2024, but it is also reported to include a release clause of £66m which will come into effect this coming summer transfer window.

Figures such as £160m were being bounded around during the last window, such was the demand for Haaland's signature.

Many have questioned why Dortmund did not strike a deal with one of a number of clubs interested, given they were well aware they are likely to lose him next summer for less than half of that number due to his release clause.

However, it would be nothing short of a masterstroke if those at the top of the Dortmund hierarchy could convince Haaland to stay until 2023 - doubling his wages in the process, while giving them one more season with one of the best strikers in Europe.

The Norwegian's current deal sees him pocket €8m a year, while Dortmund's latest offer would increase that to just under €16m a year - €288k per week.

Haaland has rarely spoken publicly about his future, but did offer a slight update earlier this year in the wake of Dortmund's DFB Pokal success.

"Well, I have a contract for a couple of years so I am respectful towards my contract," the Norway star told ViaPlay.

"I am a simple guy. When I like something, I just want to have more. When I score a goal, I always chase the next goal.

"I have big dreams. I just won my first major trophy and it was a great feeling. So I want to win trophies."

Dortmund are keen on Haaland extending his stay to prevent two superstar's leaving in successive summer window's following Jadon Sancho's departure earlier this year.

Former Liverpool star and fellow Norwegian John Arne Riise has sung the praises of his countryman, claiming : "Whoever gets Haaland, whether it’s next season or whatever, is going to be an unbelievably strong team for many years to come.

"I don’t know if Liverpool have the chance to sign him, but if they do then please do, because that would be unbelievable for the club - or for any club that signs him!"
