Ronaldo overtakes Solskjaer after scoring in Manchester United victory

It hasn't been the happiest start for Cristiano Ronaldo since he returned to Manchester United in the summer.

The year though has ended on a high for the Portuguese superstar and the Red Devils after taking a 3-1 victory over Burnley on Thursday night.

Ronaldo appeared frustrated in the early stages of the match after missing an early opportunity, but he got his goal after 35 minutes as he tapped home when Scott McTominay's strike was pushed onto the post.

In finding the back of the net, Ronaldo overtook Ole Gunnar Solskjaer for goals scored in the Premier League - with the 36-year-old now on 92 goals in 211 appearances.

After the match, Ronaldo posted on Instagram pictures of him scoring against Burnley and celebrating with his team-mates.

He captioned the post: 'Best way to end the year! Great victory.'

Solskjaer, who was sacked by United after their 4-1 defeat to Watford in November, scored 91 goals in 235 appearances.

In all competitions, Ronaldo has now scored 132 goals for the Red Devils, having again overtook Solskjaer earlier this season who found the back of the net on 126 occasions.

Despite United's struggles this season, Ronaldo has been electric in front of goal, scoring 14 goals in 20 appearances across all competitions.

Ronaldo now needs just eight more goals to join the Premier League's 100-goal club.

However, he has cut a frustrated figure for large parts of his return to Old Trafford, and the Portuguese came in for recent criticism following his decision not to acknowledge supporters after recent matches at Norwich and Newcastle.

It is something that has been picked up on by interim head coach Ralf Rangnick, who has told his players to improve their body language on the pitch.

Despite these issues, however, Mendes was quick to stub out any talk of a possible departure for the No 7.

'Cristiano Ronaldo is very happy at Manchester United,' Mendes said in an interview with Sky Sports Italia, as per the Sun.

'He's going to continue with his solid, great performances as always in his career. It's going be a great season for him, I'm sure.'
