Another big brand exits Princes Quay as River Island announce closure

Another brand has announced it will be leaving Hull's Princes Quay next month with River Island the latest to exit the shopping centre.

The Princes Quay store posted pictures in its windows to confirm it would closing for the final time on April 2 this year. Shoppers won't have far to go however as the St Stephens branch will remain open.

The shop on level two of the city centre shopping complex was one of the last remaining big-brand fashion retailers left at Princes Quay. It is not the first shop to announce that it will be moving on in recent weeks.

In February, Next confirmed that their outlet store in Princes Quay would be closing this month with staff given just six weeks notice of the closure. The shop on Level 3 of the Princes Quay Shopping Centre had been one of the main draws to what seemed to be a burgeoning outlet section.

However, the brand has announced it will be closing its outlet in Hull meaning customers will have to travel to Doncaster for a bargain in the future. Next confirmed that the outlet store in Princes Quay will closed on March 27, 2022, but made no further comment on the circumstances.

The loss of the store is a major blow to the shopping centre which had brought together a number of outlets on Level 3 to provide shoppers with an enticing offer. Next will remain in the city however with stores on Anlaby Road, Kingswood and in the St Stephen's Shopping Centre.

River Island will close for the last time on Saturday, April 2. Both River Island and Princes Quay have been approached for comment.
