Carol Kane, 56, gave interior designer Mark White 13.3m Boohoo shares, meaning he owns around 1 per cent of the retailer.

The pair, who had been together for around 36 years and lived in the Staffordshire countryside, were married in 2016 in a quiet ceremony at Horton Hall, their Jacobean mansion.

They did not have children, but had four Jack Russell terriers. White has been consistently paid for ‘marketing’ work for Boohoo, its annual reports show.

In 2020 Boohoo paid him £65,000, while a year earlier he was paid £86,000. Payments were made to the now-dissolved White Cube Creative company, of which the 56-year-old is the only director.

Kane, a designer by trade, still owns a 1.6 per cent stake in Boohoo worth around £8.1million.

Boohoo declined to comment.
