His brother Pat however is the number one seed having won silver at the 2019 World Championship following his defeat by Andrey Zamkovoy in the final and gold at the Olympic qualifier in June after claiming his revenge against the Russian.

The McCormack brothers have also been joined in winning their opening round matches by Charley Davison and Ben Whittaker in a strong start to the boxing in Tokyo from Team GB .

Olympic debutant Davison sealed a unanimous points decision victory against Morocco's Rabab Cheddarin in the women's flyweight.

Whittaker meanwhile had to rely on a split decision in the men's light-heavyweight to get past Colombia's Jorge Luis Vivas.
