Jay-Z submits application for online sports gambling license in NY

Jay-Z has applied for an online sports betting license from the New York Gaming Commission.

The rapper, 51, is collaborating with mogul Michael Rubin on the project called Fanatics Sportsbook, which also involves the gaming software company Kambi, insiders told TMZ on Monday.

The Brooklyn native and Rubin are among a lot of high-powered gaming orgs to submit applications, as BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel and WynnBET have all done so as well, with sources telling the outlet that at least two will be approved by state officials.

Sources told TMZ that the rap mogul, who is the only Black applicant for the license, would aim for diversity in hiring for a flagship New York City location.

An insider added to Page Six : 'He’s a native New Yorker, and Roc Nation is a diverse company. Jay-Z is New York.'

Jay-Z will be the vice chairman and sit on the board of directors of the Fanatics group, according to documents reviewed by Page Six.

The outlet reported that Jay-Z's name as a possible license holder had been redacted from official documents, which stated that ex-FanDuel CEO Matt King would serve as CEO for the Fanatics group.

Jay-Z and his org Roc Nation recently invested in Rubin's Fanatics group, which has embarked on a $325 million expansion, according to Bloomberg, as the business seeks to enhance its presence in gaming, media and ticketing endeavors.

Jay-Z and his business acumen are focused to 'help attract new customers, engage existing sports bettors and expand the overall footprint of the Fanatics sportsbook,' Fanatics said in application docs.

The Big Pimpin rapper previously has experience in the industry, as he had gaming licenses in Nevada and New Jersey with The 40/40 Clubs.
